If everyone drove fuel efficient cars, the price of gas would go down and I would be happy.
I'm not saying SUVs should be banned, but christ, they could lower the fucking headlights so they don't carmelize my retinas.
That said, quit trolling with the the libertarian line. You can't fool me, I know first-hand that you in fact went to college.

That is the least of SC's problems. Vehicles are not the sole culprits for air quality deterioration, nor do SUV's have the worst emissions.-SC is about to lose lots of federal funds for not meeting air quality standards
Maybe mommy shouldn't have smoked while she was pregnant. It is bad enough I can't park in the best spots, now I have to drive a different car to accommodate the imperfections of others? Take your meds or die.-Asthma rates in children increase as air quality decreases
If you weren't driving so slow in the left lane, my headlights wouldn't be 5 feet from your rear window. All headlights are angled down so distance between you and me makes all the difference.SUV headlights are conviently placed at eye level of regular cars for better blinding at night
So what you are saying is that I am less likely to die if my car is bigger than yours? Sign me up. 'Safety' now joins 'Comfort' and 'Style' as reasons for me to pay more for an SUV.Big vechicles are more likely to kill or seriously injure others in accidents
oh yeah and abortion is murder
I don't really want to go into detail on why you are wrong, especially in this thread. Start a new thread if you are really care that much.
Would it go down? Do we have numbers to back this up? Last I checked, europe was big on the gas efficient, tiny french pieces of shit and their gas was about twice as high as ours.If everyone drove fuel efficient cars, the price of gas would go down and I would be happy.
I would be interested in seeing how much demand affects the price curve. Also, how much is demand affected by fuel efficiency in automobiles.

Still, how much of that demand was automobiles? How many cars per capita are in asia? Airlines, residential heating, and power plants also use gas.
Also, doesn't opec lower their supply to keep the prices steady? I imagine there was more to the $0.80/gal gas prices than just asians using their cars less.
edit: And by a few years ago you mean almost a decade ago.

I saw a stat somewhere (convincing huh?) that if everyone drove a Prius ( like 60 to 80 MPG) we could end our dependance on foreign oil. Of course not all vechicles can be Priuses, and we wouldn't stop buying oil, but it would be cheap.
My problem w/ SUV headlights is oncoming traffic, and you are more likely to hurt others in an SUV and yourself. It's hard enough to keep SUV's from flipping over when parked.

I don't think we buy foreign oil because we don't have enough.
Anyway, I just don't buy into the whole "We should use more efficient cars so my gas is cheaper" idea.
Perhaps you should work instead of surfing the intarweb. If everyone worked more efficiently, prices would go down as well.
If people really cared about the cost of gas, we would carpool more (my SUV can fit 4-5 people comfortably btw) and we would have a decent fucking public transit system.
That's the beauty of capitalism. I pay money to not worry about your problems. It may be inefficient but if I wanted to then I could do something about it. It's my prerogative.

Above page sites government as saying 7.4 MPG increase in all cars would cut our dependance on arab oil. Assumeing old data and/or general propaganda lets take 200% of the first number and round up to 15 MPG and see that the Prius gets at least 20 on Ves's car and 40ish on most SUV's.
FINE PRINT - I should note that I don't propose banning SUV's (trucks are just as bad and that's what I'm shopping for), but that people have a right to complain about them. But if I had the money there would be a Hybrid Accord with all the GPS bells and whsitles sitting outside my house. And I think the same mpg and emissions rules that apply for cars should be applied to the Trucks/SUV's

Certain questions cannot be asked or answered. Hybrids can kiss my ass until they start making them with more then a 115 HP engine, but most likely they will still continue to kiss my ass years after they do.
Global Warming is a myth anyways. Penn and Teller did a Bull Shit on the subject and it was hilarious. If you dont watch that show, get showtime and watch it every weekend.

I bet that site isn't biased...
The NRDC (Council instead of fund, same organization) is not the "governement". They are "the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of more than 1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things." That is according to their website (http://www.nrdc.org/about/).
I don't put much stock in numbers reported by people with an agenda. Especially when they start guessing at the effects of playing with those numbers. Raising the average mpg by 7.6 would "eliminate one-hundred percent of our gulf oil imports into this country"?
Whatever you say, Nostradamus.
edit: URL's confuse the kabol.
