Superman Returns

Outstanding film. I have to say the movie surpasses Superman 1 and 2. Routh is not as good as Christopher Reeve, but I mean what the fuck. Routh still sells as Superman, and the story is MUCH better than either of the previous films.

If you haven't seen Superman 1 and 2, or don't remember them well, you should watch them before seeing the movie. You will appreciate the new one a more if you do, for two reasons. One, it has several references to prior events and at least 3 major plot points derive from those two films and two, this movie is better than they are.

Would buy from again. Great seller!

I loved the new superman, and I actually like Routh better than Reeve. The only thing bad I have to say is that the movie introduces certain ideas and just abandons them, but in the long run it still makes an excellent film.

I agree

The newest Superman is pretty good. Far better then I thought it would be.

Kevin Spacey, as always, Puts on a Stellar performace and Lex Luther, imho.

From what i hear from my friends was that the movie was horrible. They not only destroyed the comic book character, but they destroyed the role that Christopher Reeve made.

Far too many things have contradicted themselves in that movie. I haven't seen it yet, but after reading the reviews my friends seem to have hit the mark so i find them very credible.

Superman was a very truthful and loyal person.

::spoilers ahead::

Superman having a illegitimate child ruined the superman image. Superman never had a child in the comic books, nor did he ever hint at having a sexual relationship with Lois Lane. And to think that superman would try to break up a relationship kills the comic book character as well.

Kevin Spacey as lex luthor was a laughing stock. First time i saw him acting in a preview i was pissed. Lex Luthor was calm, collected, cold, calculating, and just plain cruel. He was not happy, bouncy, and crazy.

Now explain to me how he carries a entire continent YET he cannot stop a plane? That right there should tell you a bunch of things he did wrong.

I will see superman, but it won't be until it comes out on dvd, because i am a superman fan and what they did to him was just plain horrible. I'll save my money for "Drill Bill" on ppv.

He was married to Lois and plenty of times they talk about sex. You are right, though, he never has a child. Additionally he does not try to break up any relationships. He goes out of his way to set aside his own feelings for the happiness of Lois with Cyclops.

Lex is quite crazy in the comics as well. Spacey had the perfect amount of charisma for the role and all the "happy bouncy" shit takes up maybe 5 seconds (you see it all in the previews).
Now explain to me how he carries a entire continent YET he cannot stop a plane? That right there should tell you a bunch of things he did wrong.
He has to stop the plane without crushing it...and he does.

What did bother me was the fact that superman has access to all the knowledge krypton ever had and he does not share this knowledge with anyone. The comic superman would use this knowledge to stop hunger, war, etc in the world.

superman has stopped planes a bunch of times in the comic book... never once did the planes start falling apart because he was stopping it nor did he have to struggle.

Superman has super strength and super speed, he is very capable of flying under the airplane and stopping that way. That is how he always did it in the comics.
He was married to Lois and plenty of times they talk about sex. You are right, though, he never has a child. Additionally he does not try to break up any relationships. He goes out of his way to set aside his own feelings for the happiness of Lois with Cyclops.
In the comics he was married to Lois Lane, that is completely different. In the movies they were not married. Thus, superman wouldn't of had a relationship out of marrage.

You have to remember, Superman is a super goody goody. Even now in the comics he is still portrayed as such. He has been made more modern, but his moral stature still stands. This movie is making Superman more human, and that isn't the case. He is a illegal alien to earth.

Also, the comics only barely touch the subject of sex. Superman is still considered mostly a child's comic book, as it should be. Superman was one comic you know you could let your kids sit down and read. Even the death of superman comics were not as graphic as say Marvel would make it.

I come from a family that are Superman fanatics. My dad has all of the 50-60's comics in his closet... i have read all of them. Hell he had some of the original flash and green lantern comics.

My dad who has kept up with the superman comics even today is utterly disgusted by what they did to him. As am I, and i haven't even seen the movie. But i can't really judge it without seeing it. I am only going by what i have been told.

unfortunitely he is as str8 as he comes... it is too the point where he superimposses my aunts', on my mom side, faces on porn pictures with his face on the guy. He has tons of these pictures. My dad is creepy and i really want nothing to do with him anymore, but i stay on his good side to get my hands on those comics ;;>.>

I have a really bad family... luckily i am the only one that came out somewhat normal except all the psychological shit i am left with x.x

Um...errr....oops, my bad. Not good when a joke opens up wounds. Still nothing like when Dobber or someone rips on my Dad and I go into the whole "He disowned me before I was born and wanted my mother to abort me" thing.

My review:

Pathetic script, pathetic plot, some good special effects, no character developement(I refer you back to pathetic script) and about 60 minutes too long. Sandee and I would have walked out but for the fact we'd forked out 70 bucks for IMAX tickets for ourselves and her parents.

Verdict: wait for hbo/showtime to see it

Since you haven't seen it, I'm surprised that you are so against the film, but as you wish.
Superman never had a child in the comic books, nor did he ever hint at having a sexual relationship with Lois Lane.

Superman Returns is not, and has never been, marketed as faithful to the comics. It is explictly a sequel to Superman 2, a film in which Superman very much has sex with Lois at LEAST once and without his super strength.
And to think that superman would try to break up a relationship kills the comic book character as well.
You must have seen a different movie. I take that back - your friends must have. The entire fucking source of tension of the movie is that Superman wants to get back with Lois but doesn't want to break up the relationship -once he knows about it - and takes measures to not do so.
Kevin Spacey as lex luthor was a laughing stock. First time i saw him acting in a preview i was pissed. Lex Luthor was calm, collected, cold, calculating, and just plain cruel. He was not happy, bouncy, and crazy.
Again, Spacey is playing Gene Hackman's character, not the Lex from DC.
Now explain to me how he carries a entire continent YET he cannot stop a plane?

He does, and very publicly, and very dramatically, stop the plane in a way that prevents the occupants from turning into chunky salsa. It seemed obvious to me when I watched it that he was not stuggling to stop the plane; he was struggling to -slow it down-.

Id like to add a 2 cent peice here.

you say that he has stopped alot of airplanes int he comic.

did he ever stop a plane that had been traveling with a Space Shuttle strapped to the top of it?

I mean, that may make a little difference?

As far as the movie went. I thought it was an excellent follow up to 2.
not the comic books.

and I think spacey hit it on the button. followed up Gene Hackman's role.

I am amused that this has devolved into a debate of the physiscs of Superman stopping a plane. Shouldn't the whole science of Superman debate start with his method of propulsion?

And why isn't there any mention of the greatest Superman movie ever: Superman 3, that was entertainment!

Think of it this way. The man can lift a continent and move it to outer space, i mean completely forget that it is made of kryptonite, but STOPPING a plane is difficult? Come on.

There is a time and place where logic and just being a movie comes to a head. Superman can surpass our basic logic. HE can stop meteors, move continents, hell he even turned time backwards. But he can't stop a plane? I don't care if there was a space shuttle on it or not. Moving a continent means he could of easily of stopped that plane with finesse and not kill the passengers.

I did not like Bryan Singer touching x-men, and from everything that i have been reading up on and being told, he ruined another moive. I'll wait for the dvd so i can bumm it off someone and not actually pay to see it.
