My solution: dust off

Post by Payndar Circusdorf »

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

New Orleans is 55 kinds of proper fucked and it appears to be getting worse. As things stand today (Sept 1), it's been 3 days since Hurricane Katrina hit. 80% of the city is underwater. Today there were confirmed reports that the 23,000 people in the Superdome, who in theory are being evacuated by bus to the Astrodome in Houston, are no longer contending only with malnourishment, crowding, lack of running water, and an absence of news from their families. This morning there were -intentionally set- fires in trash cans inside the dome, the national guard -inside the dome- retreating to the southeast corner to establish a line of control.

Estimates as of this afternoon suggest that 100,000 citizens of New Orleans remain -in the city proper- and rest on top of rooftops. They have had no food since Monday and many made it onto the roofs only with minutes to spare before the floodwaters out of Lake Pontchartrain engulfed their attics. The waters around their rooves are literally surrounded by water, sewage, chemicals, a film of gasoline from cars, and now snakes, 3-foot sharks(!), and worst of all, looters.

The looters are progressing through the city confirmedly armed with AK-47s, raping women and stealing non-essential goods like TVs and DVD players. Today it has been confirmed that the looters are firing on rescue workers and even National Guard helicopters.

As a result FEMA has declared that they are suspending rescue operations due to the looters.

I am usually not one to criticize the government in situations like this, but this time I am ready to join the looters myself.

Scientists have warned for decades that a Cat-5 cane would destroy the city in exactly this way. Even last year I heard a report on the radio detailing this exact scenario. Yet for some reason, even at this hour, days after the hurricane, the Louisiana Governor STILL has yet to call up the entirety of the Louisiana National Guard.

The Louisiana National Guard has yet to deliver supplies to the thousands of victims currently milling, starving, thirsting, and literally dying by the minute on Interstate 10 - a location accessible by police cars that this moment. These people are recorded on camera stating that they have received absolutely no guidance on where to go.

Why are there no helicopters dropping supplies to these people?
Why are there no bannerplanes, so eager to advertise sunglasses at the beach, telling these people where to go?
Why are there not thousands of National Guard and US Army regulars on the streets on New Orleans literally engaging the looters in combat?

I have no idea the political affiliation of the laders involved here, but they need to be fucking voted out, or shot.

Well watching the news this morning Bush was quoted stating that the situation isn't dire enough to demand airdrops of food. Not sure about the national guard, I agree with you that they should be called out for help, but mainly as you said to take out the looters/rapists/arsonists/mimes runing around there. This also could be a called action/delay by Bush do to the fact that he has hit an all time low on his polls, he may be in thought or fear that he may get more people killed which would lead to more people camping his ranch as he's trying to enjoy his vacations(which he has spent at least 33% of his presidency doing).

I vote nuke it as well.

This is a thread from another WoW guild board I read. The poster is in the military, and he's just kinda brushing over some of the highlights he's noticed.
Hi guys i just wanted to post while i have the chance and let you know some of the stuff thats going on here in new orleans that you likely arent seein on the news.

Since early saturday i have been here , before the storm hit. My unit holed up in the Hilton downtown and rode out the storm. After the storm we immediatly started rescure operations and tryed for the last 3 days to save as many people as possible. The army corps of engineers has tryed multiple times to fix the levy system here and the first few trys made things worse and flooded the 9th ward ghettos even worse than it was previously flooded. We basically drive in huge |LMTV trucks that can tread up to 5 feet of water, get as close to the boat dropoffs as we caN AND FILL UP with refugees and take them to known shelters. my unit for these first 3 days has not had weapons due to the weapon truck getting sunk under 15 ft of water..=/ Yesterday when i went on my last run i was shot at and our truck nearly run off the road by civilians who have hijacked civilian type trucks trying to escape the city. This morning we move to a new hotel that has a working generator and land phone lines. We have no supplies and very little help here. It is far far worse than anything you see on television. We need more help here, and currently we hear that it is on the way. I have recieved very ;little sleep and am trying just to get by and not let things get to me too badly, 2 days ago i had a 7 year old girl die in my arms from water damage to her lungs , and we could not get her to a medical center fast enough =( i have seen and done things here i would have never imagined myself capable of, and im trying to hang on and not lose hope of us getting everyone out of danger and ourselves to safety.

When we prepared to roll out this morning, we were armed by new orleans police with shotguns and assault rifles, mp5 etc, due to the growing unrest in the city, and the lack of general supplies for refugees. Then, we were locked down and posted heavy security at our location after 2 soldiers were shot short time ago. I currently do not know if they survived, but due to the lack of help my unit has, and our general position, we are now in limbo until we recive more assistance. I am so sorry if this upsets anyone, but i wanted some of you to understand how bad it is and wanted to get some of this off my chest as i havwent really been able to contact that many people.

My cellphone is currently down due to tower damage, but if anyone wants to leave a message for when service is restored my number is
xxx-xxx-xxxx (Edited, nonessential info)

i still cannot contact krysta to let her know i am okay but hopefully she is okay. I do not know if i will be able to post again anytime soon but i just wanted you guys to know that i am okay and doing my best to help here. I personally haAVE moved 18 truckloads of people, rescued 15 critical care patients, and moved several hospital refugees around when the hospital generators failed and people started dying.=(

i will keep trying to do my best and i hope Zaven made it out okay, currently i do not know when we will be relived, but i hope to god it is soon, as the majority of lawful refugees are either out or getting moved out now, however they stopped the evacuation due the deaths and the unrest.

Til next time guys be safe

Luke (traps)
And another post by him 2 hours later (today, 9/1).
Update we are now better armed. The NO police escort we had did not show up at the scheduled time, we have learned they are holed up as there are hostile people with weapons between our control center and us, and they took fire and had to back up. We are going to try and punch through to the west bank to the Winn-Dixie where our control center is and hopefully we will be okay. Its so stange to be prepping for combat with your own countrymenim not sure how i feel about it yet, but they have wounded and shot our people, who are only here to save lives to the point that life saving missions have now been shut down, and the only job we have left is evacuation and looting and hostile personel. So i sit here drenched in sweat wearing the uniform i have wporn for days smelling like a sewer+dwarfs arsehole(hi khistrich). We move out in 6 hours if our police contingent has not shown up yet . I will not likely have further communication so gluck and i hope i dont get shot in the ass.

Thanks for your support too guys.

**EDIT** Moving out now, to assist N.O.P.D. with operations. Bye Guys =/

The only thing I have to add about this entire situation...I've been saying for YEARS that living in New Orleans is begging for trouble. For fuck's sake, the city was 10 to 20 feet below sea level, and it's ON THE FUCKING COAST!

I'm sure everyone is intelligent enough to know what that means, but to just simplify it...fill up your bathtub with water. Now, take a bowl and push it down until the top of the bowl is even with the surface tension of the water... and try to keep the bowl from being flooded.

Fucking ludicrous.

Just exactly how do you come back and rebuild after this?
Image

This image below is what I wanted to see to be able to assess the damage.
Image
My home was flooded with 14 feet of water back in 98. I was lucky to have bricks and a foundation left. My family, and the rest of the families in my neighborhood were able to band together and get things back to normal with the help of the rest of the community...but ...there is no community left. America will have to chaulk up New Orleans to the history books, there is no rebuilding. The entire area has been protected by levies for 60+ years, and now they'll have to start from scratch rebuilding levies, draining the water, refacing the land....it'll take 50 years to build it back to where it was, and 200 years to forget about the devistation.

With the prospect of moving somewhere else I am sure some people will be dumb enough to attempt to rebuild NO. Shit I would pack up and move very far inland to Iowa. Tornados are at least covered on homeowners insursance.

I think they should rebuild inside an active volcano. Its almost the same thing, except with lava instead of water.

You just dont build in places where your obviously going to get fucked by mother nature to an extremity of the entire decimation of your life. The only reason to build anything near a body of water that can be afflicted by something like a huricane is a port for the moving of goods. People should not build their homes there. Of course, due to the demand to work closer to home, they will try to rebuild, spend billions of dollars, and probably be fucked again.

Well, next time that happens, I'm going to fill up my car BEFORE the hurricane hits land...and my 55 gallon drums.

So now when theres even the POSSIBILITY of a tropical storm, hurricane, death of the pope, etc. comes around, every man and woman will haul ass to the local gas station and horde it.

The same thing happens when a "blizzard" (over 2" of snow) hits anywhere in the southeast. Goodbye bread and milk. I don't know wtf they do with it, but the grocery shelves are fucking empty, just the same.

So many people were calling others telling them to get gas before it runs out. If gas really does run out, I think the fact that I don't have any is going to be my biggest problem. Nor will having gas solve your problems. And it isn't like the whole fucking planet ran out of it, all of a sudden.

Whenever we do run out of oil will be a very interesting time. Due to oil being in nearly everything or the making of nearly everything, the world, in general, will be fucked. By then, though, i should be retired and old, and more concerned about where my damn jello and mashed potatoes are.
