Well, I beat single player on friday. Total time played was about 15 hours, give or take. I won't spoil anything about the ending, however expect to see Doom 4 (perhaps in another 9 years).
I tried multiplayer and it leaves something to be desired. Can't say I really expected it to be great but I would have prefered at least decent.
The worst part about multiplayer is the server selection screen. It comes with filters so you can filter out full, empty, and password protected servers; the catch is that they don't work correctly. I spent 10 minutes searching for a server that I could join. 85% of the servers were pword protected, 10% were full (even with various filtering methods chosen--tried multiple), and 5% were actually joinable.
So after the 10 minutes I finally log onto a server and am able to join. It played smoothly enough but the map was too large for 4 people and most of my play time was spent running around looking for people. Even with only 4 players on the server everyone was hit by random lag spikes that were pretty intense. The spikes halted the game for about 5-10 seconds at a time and then seemed to go back to normal shortly after. Granted the host's system might have been sub par, or in Singapore or something, but after sitting through 5 of these spikes I was done.
Single player is great and I will probably play it again soon, working my way through the difficulty levels just to see how balls hard it gets. Will I play multiplayer again to see if it redeems itself? At this point I think I would rather shit glass shards.

In all honesty after the newness of the game goes away its just sorta boring. Now im used to something jumping out at me when i open a door. So I just get close enough and go over to the side and wait for the mob to run through then i kill it. Rinse repeat. Then a dumb "Island of doctor Monroe" story line thats going on, bores me so. Doom should be more like Serious Sam and less like Resident evil.
Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity
theres also another part of this game you didn't cover, the mods part, there making it easier for ppl to add mods, like quake 3 was, i played doom 3 for about 3-4hours, scary at first, like shit your pants scary, but you get used to it, and after a while, it just seems like a amazing looking game engine, but this game wasn't made with AI in mind also, even john car. admited to it, its just a scary ass game, showing off the new engine they built.
Expect there next game to be more AI concentrated, and its not a sequel to any games they previously worked on.
About the controler and mouse aiming thing with maz, thats personal choice, he knows my opinion on this.
About 7-8 ppl with xbox, same fun if not more can be had a lan party. 10-15 ppl with computers is a blast. but pretty much the most fun i've had is 4 gba with zelda four swords, fighting for ruby's and weapons trying to figure levels. is a blast.

not really you just need to tweak the game so it runs better
recomand doing this tweak for sure, tasted this and gave me about 10fps more, so from 35-45 to 45-55

and some more usefull ones here, haven't test these
