I think that the time investment is the most significant difference between other games and WoW. You really can do a lot of progression (quest completion, travel, etc) in just a short amount of time compared to other MMOs.

Wuzzah. WoW is cool as hell. Most MMORPGs require ridiculous time committments to advance your character, e.g. FF11. If you were to start a FF character now, it would take MONTHS (5,6 or more) to get to the point where you could compete, or even play with some one that has been playing since release...
